OIL PAINTINGS:

project: Greene with Blue Line

Oil painting by Tuck Contreras (e-copyright 2010)

Greene with Blue Line. Oil painting on canvas, 39 x 58 in.

This oil painting is a portrait of Tuck’s friend and mentor, surrealist painter Ethel Greene (1912–1999). Tuck created the award-winning portrait in 1993, and it was on show, along with some of Ethel’s own works and other artistic tributes, at a North Park gallery in San Diego, CA that same year.

TO LEARN MORE ABOUT TUCK’S SUBJECT:

A retrospective exhibition celebrating the extraordinary work of Ethel Greene was held at the Oceanside Museum of Art, 25 August through 13 October, 2002. Forty of Ethel’s paintings were on view, with 16 slides of art from the show available for online viewing here. The exhibition catalog, Ethel Greene: Surrealist Painter (Oceanside, CA: Oceanside Museum of Art, 2002; ASIN: B0006S6FPU), was authored by guest curator, Mark-Elliott Lugo.
