OIL PAINTINGS:

project: Sunset on the Klickitats

Oil painting by Tuck Contreras (e-copyright 2010)

Sunset on the Klickitats. Oil painting on canvas, 38 x 38 in.

Sunset on the Klickitats was painted in August 2005, and records the view northeast, across the Columbia River, from Tuck’s front porch in The Dalles.

Named after the Klickitat tribe of the Yakama Indian Nation (klickitat is a Chinookan word meaning beyond), the endless interlocking hills of the Klickitats make a dramatic scene, constantly changing across their surface with the seasons. During summer months, the Klickitats are covered by hundreds of miles of wheat fields, and the play of colors across the hills is spectacular.

This painting captures a typical summertime vista where the sunset on the dry wheat sets the hills aglow late in the day.

Sunset on the Klickitats is in the collection of Sandi Green and Linda Karmon.
